“In late 2017 R-TECH Materials took the decision to apply for certification of their management systems to recognised ISO standards. Whilst the testing arm of the business was already accredited by UKAS to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 the business as a whole needed to develop and implement systems that would meet the requirements of the ISO standards for Health & Safety (ISO 45001), Environmental (ISO 14001) and Quality systems (ISO 9001). In addition a new edition of ISO/IEC 17025 had been released in 2017 and the testing side of the business needed to amend their current system to reflect the changes and apply to UKAS to make the transition to this later edition.
Having worked with Standerwick Safety Partnership for several years with them acting as consultants advising on R-TECH’s health, safety and environmental requirements, it was decided to engage Standerwick to assist in developing an Integrated Management System that would satisfy all of the relevant standards. It was also decided that we would attempt to achieve the various certification in a very ambitious timescale, which was partially driven by our desire to gain approval to the Fit4Nuclear scheme and also by the need to transition to the 2017 edition of ISO/IEC 17025 before our UKAS accreditation was due for renewal.
The achievement of the above objectives was reliant upon the professional advice and assistance of Standerwick personnel. Throughout the exercise R-TECH were provided with helpful and expert guidance, and we believe that it would not have been possible to achieve this ambitious project, given the short timescale, had it not been for Standerwick’s assistance”.
